Silver Jewellery Care
All Dorset Hill Jewellery pieces have been handcrafted with care, to last a lifetime.
Sterling silver is a beautiful metal but will naturally tarnish over time, depending on its exposure to air, humidity, perspiration, perfumes, cosmetics etc. This process also differs from person to person, as our own body chemistry is somewhat unique. Even antibiotic use can effect this skin balance, causing silver to darken and even blacken.
How to care for your handmade silver jewellery.
Initially, use a soft/baby toothbrush and warm water with a little washing-up liquid to gently wash to remove dirt and grease. Dry with a non-abrasive cloth (even kitchen roll can scratch polished silver!). Rub with a specialist silver polishing cloth, available here. Wear your jewellery with pride or store your pieces away in your Dorset Hill Jewellery box.
Tips to help keep your handmade silver jewellery looking it’s best
✖️ DON’T wear it when swimming, in a hot tub, exercising, gardening, or anywhere it’s likely to get tangled or damaged.
✖️ DON’T use silver dips. Although they can give an instant result initially, the corrosive action is harsh for the silver surface and can make it tarnish quicker next time.
✖️ DON’T expose to harsh chemicals, bleach or seawater.
✅ DO enjoy your jewellery and wear it often!
✅ DO store carefully in your Dorset Hill Jewellery box when not in use.
✅ DO clean carefully and polish up with a specialist silver cloth.
